Case Study

Education - Thompson Primary School

Thompson Primary School in Norfolk has taken positive steps to save money and improve safety for both staff and pupils by fitting GlassGuard BlackBand® fragment retention lamps lamps and new IP65 fixtures.

GlassGuard®'s IP65 T5 fixtures have been installed in the main hall, staff room and foundation class room, delivering a vital energy saving of 37% in these areas. From this installation of just 22 GlassGuard® IP65 T5 fixtures, the school will save 1 Kilowatt of energy per hour, which equates to a cash saving of £182.00 per year. This is a significant sum for a small school and paves the way for major energy saving opportunities for larger installations. For example, a typical high school with 500 T8 fluorescent fixtures could save up to £4,000 per year by switching to GlassGuard® IP65 fixtures.

Energy efficiency is one concern easily addressed by GlassGuard®, but safety for pupils and staff is also vitally important, particularly in high risk areas such as the main hall, where the children play sports. GlassGuard BlackBand® fragment retention lamps provide full glass retention when impacted or if accidentally dropped during maintenance and comply to the latest standard BS EN 61549.

"I am delighted to be using GlassGuard® lamps and fixtures which provide safety protection in the event of accidental lamp breakage as well as significant cost savings. I can't believe that by simply changing every lamp in my school, I can save over £8.00 per lamp every year and get GlassGuard® shatterproof security for free"
